Many teens in our programs have masked their lack of self-esteem by taking on an image that hides their vulnerabilities and is based on their perceptions of what others are likely to accept (i.e. gothic, tough guy, punk, class clown, gangster, etc.). Teens will have the opportunity to take an objective look at the image they have created and also explore the reasons why they choose to live an illusion. They also learn to identify their self-limiting beliefs and habits that perpetuate their negative self-image. As teens recognize that the way they feel about themselves is based on the many false assumptions they have made during emotionally difficult experiences in their lives, they are empowered to let go of their image and choose to respect themselves for who they are.
